Dakota Power-The Company

Dakota Power, LLC, (DP) was founded in January 2007 by Dr. William Hughes and Dr. Richard Gowen to continue the development of a new class electrical motors and generators with a unique DC magnetic field.  The new machines integrate characteristics of switched reluctance machines and brushless DC machines and are identified as SRDCM to indicate the unique addition of the DC magnetic field.  The SRDCM have the potential for high efficiency power dense operation. The major objective of the company is the manufacture of high efficiency lightweight electric drive systems using the SRDCM technology.

A research and development program of Dr. Hughes developed electric drive systems using prototype SRDCM machines to establish the proof of concept of the SRDCM technology.   Additionally, Dr. Hughes developed a computer model to design SRDCM motors and generators. This model provides an estimate of the weight of the designed motors and generators and is the base for the DP Design Software.

Dr. Gowen continued the operation of the company after Dr. Hughes died in February 2007.   In December 2007, the registration of the original company was converted to the Dakota Power, LLC, with Dr. Gowen as the President and CEO.
